The context

The India-Japan SME collaboration programme is a cross-border matchmaking initiative organised by SIATI and SMRJ Japan. Each cohort pairs a small group of Indian companies with Japanese SMEs across a priority sector, so that genuine working relationships form rather than one-off introductions.

Why we were chosen

Vivanet was selected as one of seven Indian companies for the AI and IT track. The brief for the sector was practical: companies with real production AI work, not demonstrations, who could speak to how Japanese manufacturing SMEs could apply AI to process optimisation, digital transformation and smart manufacturing. Selection meant representing the Indian AI and IT industry at the industry level, not just Vivanet.

What the mission looked like

A week-long business matchmaking visit to Japan, with meetings scheduled against each participant's technical profile. Each company averaged around seven substantive conversations. The meetings were technical rather than promotional: how a specific Japanese SME runs today, where AI could compress a cycle time, what the integration surface actually looks like, where the data lives, and what would make a first pilot feasible.

Media coverage

The mission was featured in Aeromag Asia, a trade publication covering aerospace and allied industries across the region. The feature placed Vivanet's inclusion in a wider story about Indian AI capability being taken seriously in Japanese industrial contexts.

What came of it

Several of the conversations begun during the week have continued. More importantly, the recognition reinforced an approach we've held throughout: talk about AI in concrete terms, grounded in production systems, and engage with the specifics of how a client actually runs rather than abstracting them away.
